The title of this site / blog isn’t merely provocative. It’s intended to be true. I’m making a game about global warming.
I call it a Serious Casual Game.
- Serious Games are often defined as games that have an additional purpose besides entertainment. In this case, my purpose is education about a serious topic — global warming.
- I like to think of Casual Games as games for my mother-in-law — and don’t think of that as an insult! My mother-in-law is an intelligent who likes to play a certain class of games on her laptop. They should be interesting, challenging, yet easy to learn and play, and they should be easy to start and stop. I’d like to make a game that she’ll want to play.
- And the game part means that even though it has a “higher” purpose, the game is still a game and it’s still fun.
At this writing, the game is in early prototype stages. I intend to post design documents and screenshots as the game develops. Please keep an eye out for them. Sign up for a feed to make it easy.
I’d also love feedback. If you think I’m full of it, say so!
