Global Warming Can Be Fun

Saving the planet one game at a time.

Third time’s the charm

So I’ve started this blog three times now.

The first time was when I started working on the global warming project. I tried several blog engines, built the blog, wrote some posts…and just as I wrote the 4th or 5th post I had a posting error that caused the entire contents of all of the posts to get deleted from my database. I really have no idea what happened, but the blog no longer worked and the database was gone gone gone.

The thought of spending those hours again was pretty unappetizing. Besides, I was trucking along on some code. So I let it slide.

Then I got my new Apple MacBook laptop and started messing with iWeb, which is a really cool little program for doing web pages. It writes somewhat big but standards-compliant code and the design templates are really well done. There are a couple of problems with it, though. First, they really really want you to put it up on a .Mac account, which I’m just not into. You can export the file locally, and I actually wrote an rsync batch job to put it up on the web site, but it’s a pain. Second, it’s really designed for personal web pages. If they didn’t anticipate something you want to do, you’re pretty much stuck. So after a little tinkering with that, I  gave up on it.

I decided it was really time to resurrect WordPress and recreate this blog. It took a bit of fiddling; had to wipe out the database, and then WP would re-initialize. I had downloaded a variety of sample themes, and finally settled on one I liked. But I needed a photo.

The one you see above is a photo I took in Hawaii — that was taken from the southernmost spot in the United States, the southern tip of the big island of Hawaii. Morgan helped me with formatting it.
And here we are. Welcome to the blog.
